We hope that you will attend a South Bay Toastmasters meeting (view our schedule). We believe that we are the best; however, there are many other Toastmaster clubs for you to consider.

Location
|
 |
In Southern California and especially the Los Angeles area, the density
of Toastmasters clubs is dense enough that you will have no difficulty
finding a number of clubs within a reasonable driving distance of your
home or work. The TI (Toastmasters International) website will direct you to the country, state, and city of your choice.

|
Meeting Time
|
 |
The majority of the clubs meet either around noon or in the evening.
Noontime clubs are usually at companies but may be open to all. This
information is available on the TI website.
It can also be filtered for the day of the week and for AM or PM.
Meeting duration of noontime clubs is usually about an hour while
evening meetings usually last longer, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Some clubs meet
at restaurants where a meeting is held while enjoying a meal. |

|
Size of Club
|
 |
Attending a meeting of a large club is generally more enjoyable than
attending one of a small club because you get to hear more people
speak, both for the formal speeches and for impromptu table topics. A
large club may have about ten major speaking roles, with a total of
fifteen functionary positions. With table topics, significant speaking
roles can be given to over twenty members. |
 |
Small clubs my have to double up some of the members to have them
fulfill more than one functionary role. While this gives the members
more practice, the meetings are less interesting. |

Choosing Your Club
|
 |
The various Toastmasters clubs are of different sizes and "flavors."
You should visit several clubs and choose the one that you like the
best for your needs. You can switch to another club at a later time if
conditions change or if you think that you have made a mistake. |

South Bay Toastmasters Club 280
|
 |
We at Club 280 are proud of the fact that we have been in continuous
operation since we chartered in 1944. We are one of the larger clubs in
the South Bay and almost always have three prepared speeches per
meeting. We find that with an average attendance between 15 and 20, the
rate of giving speeches and serving in other functionary roles meets
the members' desires. |
 |
With a large membership, it is important that all the members be
treated equitably in scheduling them for the various roles. This
accomplished by using a sophisticated computer program to keep all
records and doing the scheduling. The frequency of scheduling the
speakers is adjustable for the different members to keep everyone
satisfied. |
 |
The Sizzler is not in the business of supplying the public with free
meeting rooms. We pay for our room by having the attendees purchase
their dinner at the meeting (about $8 and up). Because their customers
order and pay their bill at the front of the restaurant (and serve
themselves if they get the soup and salad bar), they should arrive no
later than 6:45 PM so they can be seated before the meeting is called
to order at 7:00 PM. The scheduled adjournment is at 9:00 PM. You may
repeat your visit to our club as often as you like. |
